KOMRADIN, led by oud player Onn Yosef Kadosh and saxophonist Assaf Haris, offers an in-depth exploration and contemporary interpretation of the tradition of classical Arab music, with a particular focus on the Muwashshah genre. In its current work, the album Hilalen (Two Deserts), the project adopts an intimate oud-and-saxophone duo format, allowing the melodic, modal, and rhythmic subtleties of the repertoire to emerge with exceptional depth. This setting transforms the genre’s vocal and poetic complexity into a direct and improvisational instrumental dialogue: the oud assumes a distinct harmonic and contrapuntal role alongside its melodic function, while the saxophone embraces the microtonal aesthetics of the maqam tradition and the expressive flexibility of traditional wind instruments. The use of a rare 120-year-old oud built by the Nahat Brothers in Damascus, together with references to the genre’s Andalusian origins and the jazz and improvisational language of the two musicians, gives rise to a cohesive instrumental idiom. KOMRADIN offers a multilayered interpretation of the repertoire, breathing new life into an ancient tradition and bringing it to the forefront of the 21st century through a distinctive, precise, and compelling sound

 

Onn Yosef Kadosh

Onn Yosef Kadosh (b. 1998) is a composer and oud player. He holds a B.Mus. in Composition from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University and an M.A. in Composition from the University of Haifa. In 2026, he began his Ph.D. studies in Composition and Musicology at the University of Haifa under the supervision of Prof. Eitan Steinberg. In 2023, he gave the world premiere of his concerto for oud and orchestra, Har HaShemesh, with the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion conducted by George Pehlivanian. Kadosh’s work focuses on the creation and study of classical Arab music and on exploring connections between Middle Eastern musical traditions and contemporary musical languages. He leads the ensemble The Kadosh Brothers and is co-founder of the KOMRADIN project with saxophonist Assaf Haris

 

Asaf Harris

Asaf Harris is a saxophonist and composer. He is a graduate of The New School in New York, recipient of the 2020 John Coltrane Award, and an America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholar

Harris has released four albums to date. His solo albums, Walk of the Ducks (2022) and I Thought I Was Ready (2026), received critical acclaim and coverage in leading British music publications, including BBC Music Magazine and Jazzwise. As part of KOMRADIN, he has also released the albums Hilalen and Qamar al-Din, the latter launched in a premiere performance at the International Oud Festival in Jerusalem

Throughout his career, Harris has performed at leading venues and festivals in Israel and abroad, including Birdland in New York, the Bern Jazz Festival, and the Red Sea Jazz Festival. He has collaborated with prominent artists such as Hal Galper and currently performs regularly with Eli Degibri’s Big Band. Alongside his artistic work, Haris serves as Head of the Jazz Department at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Music Center, is a faculty member at the Israeli Conservatory of
