On our 19th Winter Journey around Israel we chose to shed some light on the fairly undiscussed influence of Schubert on Brahms. Alongside Schubert's celestial String Quintet in C major D.956, we shall present ,for the first time in Israel (in Haifa, in Kibbutz Afikim, and in Tel Aviv), a reconstruction of the original version of Brahms's beloved Piano Quintet in F minor op.34. As far as we know Brahms had extinguished that version.
Both quintets will be performed by the Rishonim String Quartet: Gilad Hildesheim and Dotan Tal (violins), Irit Livne (viola), Raz Kohn (cello) with Kristina Reiko-Cooper (cello).
Also on the program are three pairs of songs in which Schubert and Brahms had set music to the same texts by Goethe and Hoelty.
The Israeli Schubertiade is proud to present two brilliant young musicians from Europe. Samuel Hasselhorn (baritone) and Ammiel Bushakevitz (piano) will perform Schubert's song cycle "Schoene Muellerin" in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
In addition we shall provide a platform for an emerging young Israeli pianist: Itamar Feinberg. In three Schubertiade concerts he will perform Schubert's charming Piano Sonata in A major D.664, and two of Liszt's brilliant transcriptions on Schubert's songs.
Two other musical events will be held under the auspices of the Israeli Schubertiade:
A meeting and master-class with Yuval Admony for piano teachers and young piano-duos, and a concert of the winners of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Song Contest.
"Not Only Schubert" – with Yuval Admony / Kanazawa-Admony Piano Duo
Lecture for Piano Teachers: "Pedagogical tools from the piano duo repertoire" (1.5 hours). Masterclasses for young piano duos and soloists – pieces by Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss and others.
