Samuel Hasselhorn

Baritone

Following his First Prize triumph at the 2018 Queen Elisabeth Competition, Samuel Hasselhorn has quickly established himself internationally as a versatile artist who is equally at home in the genres of opera, Lied, and oratorio. Hasselhorn was a permanent ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera for two years, where he interpreted the title role in Don Giovanni, Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and Belcore (L'elisir d'amore) among others. At the Staatstheater Nuremberg he made his role debut as Pelléas in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande under the musical direction of Joana Mallwitz as well as his debut as Mathis in Hindemith‘s Mathis der Maler. Guest engagements have taken him to the Berlin State Opera (Conte/Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Daniel Barenboim and Figaro/Il barbiere di Siviglia), La Scala Milan (Harlekin/Ariadne auf Naxos), the Opéra national de Paris in a ballet production of Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Wolfram (Tannhäuser).
Hasselhorn is a much sought after recitalist and recording artist. He regularly performs with pianists Helmut Deutsch, Malcolm Martineau, and Philippe Cassard all over Europe, North America and Asia. His CD recordings have been awarded the Diapason d‘Or de l‘année which is the most established prize in French music business. Future engagements will bring Samuel Hasselhorn back to Berlin (both Deutsche Oper and State Opera as well as the Boulez Hall), Hamburg State Opera, Musikverein Vienna, Theatre La Monnaie in Brussels and to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra).
