Rachel Frenkel

Mezzo-soprano

Mezzo-soprano Rachel Frenkel is a regular guest of international opera and concert stages. She was a member of the Vienna state opera ensemble for over a decade, performing a variety of roles. She has performed her signature-role of Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, with Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Budapest Festival Orchestra and at the Edinburgh International Festival and Mostly Mozart Festival New York.
Most recent opera engagements include house debuts as Cherubino at Opéra national de Paris and as Komponist/Ariadne auf Naxos at La Scala di Milano, followed by Marcelline/Le nozze di Figaro, Dorabella/Cosi fan tutte with the Orchestre national de Lyon, Olga/Eugene Onegin and Isabella/Italiana in Algeri (New Israeli Opera), Idamante/Idomeneo (Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Opéra de Lille) and Sesto/La Clemenza di Tito (Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse).
Guest appearances have led her to Staatsoper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Hamburg, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Osterfestspiele Salzburg, Salzburger Festspiele, Bregenzer Festspiele and Glyndebourne Festival working with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Ivor Bolton, Iván Fischer, Gustavo Dudamel, Marc Minkowski,  Emmanuelle Haïm .
Equally sought-after on the concert stage, she has sung Berlioz’ Les nuits d´été with the Jerusalem Symphony, Bernstein’s Symphony no1 with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Omer Meir Wellber as well as with the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, works by Robert Schumann with Choeur Accentus in Paris and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the Würtembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Beethoven‘s Missa Solemnis with Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano, Beethoven’s Mass in C with the BBC Philharmonic and Omer Meir Wellber.
