Tom Karni
Tenor
Tom started his music studies at age 7 in piano and singing in the Moran choir. A
graduate of the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts, he studied conducting with profs. Eitan Globerson and Stanley Sperber at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, receiving the Dean’s Prize for exceptional achievements, and graduated the Tedarim Program,
specializing in contemporary performance. He served for three years as the assistant conductor of the Jerusalem Academy Chamber Choir, led by Prof. Stanley Sperber, and in 2017 founded The Jerusalem Soloists, a semi-professional chamber choir. He has appeared with the Meitar Ensemble, the Israeli Vocal Ensemble, and the Ra’anana Symphonette, among others. Since 2019 he is the conductor of the Moran Singers Ensemble, under music director Naomi Faran. In 2022 Tom was appointed conductor and music director of the Chamber Choir of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He is a tenor singer in the Cecilia Ensemble, an a cappella octet focusing on the performance of contemporary Israeli music. Tom is a recipient of the Eric Siday Fellowship for Musical Creativity by the Jerusalem Institute of Contemporary Music. He is also a graduate of a first degree in math and physics from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem "Amirim Program."
